Hesperides

I made a series of three images for the 2026 edition of ArcTanGent Festival in the UK. ‘Hesperides’ is the painting used as the official ATG artwork. The Hesperides were the “daughters of evening” nymphs in Greek Mythology. To prepare for this painting, I made over 80 sketches, thumbnails, and color/composition studies in my notebooks over the course of a week or two. When working on larger-scale projects, I rely on an extensive process of free-association drawing and research to help create a small lexicon of images and ideas that I can use freely throughout the final work.

Each order of ‘Hesperides’ will include an 8 x 9 inch mini-print of one of these sketches selected at random.
